Maintenance
I forget some people are still operating the way I did before cancer and MS. They are taking on all the tasks they feel they should be doing. They are putting themselves last. Caring for yourself is not a selfish act. It is a gift you give to those you love and live with.
Normalize it.
Recently, I have been reading a multitude of memoirs. I learned I love memoirs. I love reading another’s story. I love to learn how we are connected.
Living with MS
Living with Multiple Sclerosis is like walking through life with an old suitcase I am not allowed to ever set down. I imagine this suitcase is tattered, and for some reason brick red. It doesn’t have wheels that allow me to walk it alongside me like a tiny friend.
Your Choice
Choose to be around people who make you better.
Choose to be around people who push you to do more, to be more.
Choose friends who accept you as you are, but encourage and ask you to meet your potential because they see in you what you don't see in yourself.
The Power to Paint Pictures
Don't limit yourself with your words.
I like words, not just stories and ideas, but words. Words have power to paint the deepest, most meaningful pictures. Words bring feelings, memories, and connections.
Unpredictable Waves
I ran on the beach yesterday. There is something absolutely magical about the ocean.
Water Your Roots
The trees that have deep roots can withstand the most trauma. Their strength doesn't lie in their trunk no matter how wide it might be or how many rings it has to show its age.
Wood, Coal, Ice, & Fabric
I don't want more difficulties and trials to come my way, but I am thankful when they do, they will continue to shape me and form me into something amazing as long as I sit back and let them.
